it’s not a stupid question, anon! “the night in laketown” refers to the gap in the movies between thorin and co. being accepted as guests by the master and them leaving the next morning.
that anything actually happened between thorin and bilbo that night isn’t canon per se, butlet’s look at the facts:
there was clearly alcohol involved that night, see: bofur waking up drunk
before the gap, bilbo had just vouched for thorin…
…and thorin had looked at him with Extreme Heart Eyes™
it was possibly their last night on earth and therefore time to make the most of things
they were given beds
it was bilbo’s birthday (i’m not saying birthday sex but…)
when we see them the next morning, bilbo and thorin are wearing matching red cloaks
“Have you done much fighting? Axe or sword? Whats your weapon of choice?” “Well I do have some skill in conkers, if you must know.” ↳ “If more people valued home above gold, this world would be a merrier place.” "No, no no no no, no, Thorin! …Don’t you dare.”
Opalsoda wanted some Bagginshield smooch smooch and so I delivered 😀 It has been ages since I last drew a kiss wtf. It’s possible that I’ll upload a Fem!Bagginshield version too later 😀
Okay but, what more proof do you people need that the crew of The Hobbit shipped bagginshield real bad?

“Well… Balin knew what Thorin felt for Bilbo. And I think he wanted to let Bilbo know… that Thorin held him in such high regard… That’s what I think he was doing.” – Freaking Ken Stott
They’re not even hiding it
No one can convince me they didn’t do it on purpose.
