So here’s a stupid question.. I’ve seen plenty of Bagginshield posts referring to “the night in Laketown”. Is that fanon or canon? Either way, I’d like to be in on it ;)

it’s not a stupid question, anon! “the night in laketown” refers to the gap in the movies between thorin and co. being accepted as guests by the master and them leaving the next morning. 

that anything actually happened between thorin and bilbo that night isn’t canon per se, but let’s look at the facts:

  1. there was clearly alcohol involved that night, see: bofur waking up drunk
  2. before the gap, bilbo had just vouched for thorin…
  3. …and thorin had looked at him with Extreme Heart Eyes™
  4. it was possibly their last night on earth and therefore time to make the most of things
  5. they were given beds
  6. it was bilbo’s birthday (i’m not saying birthday sex but…)
  7. when we see them the next morning, bilbo and thorin are wearing matching red cloaks
  8. and bilbo’s is described as ‘trailing behind him like a wedding train’
  9. bilbo then sits in the place of honour (behind thorin) in the boat
  10. bilbo and thorin are in love

so yeah draw your own conclusions, you know, i just report the facts

TL;DR Bilbo and Thorin probably made sweet sweet love in Laketown bye
