Just a run-down of Shiro’s major symptoms of mental illness as portrayed in the show, for reference purposes.
1. Panic Attacks
1×09 – Crystal Venom. This is a panic attack:
Notice how Shiro’s reaction to Sendak is to irrationally flush him out of the ship; Sendak is triggering the panic attack, and Shiro reacts instinctively to remove the trigger:
And you can clearly see the panic on his face afterwards:
1×01 – Pilot. Shiro’s reaction to being strapped to the table in the Galaxy Garrison is another example of panic:
Which makes sense in light of his nightmare in 2×03 – Shiro’s Escape, where we see him strapped to a table in Galra captivity:
Being strapped down is triggering Shiro’s panic; it reminds him of being in Galra captivity, and his instinctive response is stress/panic/fear/anxiety.
