Alternate Title: Newt Has the Kind of Panic Attack I Save for Special Occasions and I Make Relentless Fun of Him.

Anyway, Long-distance Grad School Pen Pals AU? Actually it’s more an exaggerated fandom-mutated story about how I met the woman who is now my fiancee face-to-face for the first time. Long-distance relationship and Boston and meltdowns and all that. 

Also, the thing with the dings and the bonks is An Exercise in Fugality by George Rhoads. I’ve just always called it the Dingdong Thing. It’s been at Logan Airport for as long as I can remember and it is very calming.

After they get married, Newmann go to a tattoo parlor together and get each other’s initials tattooed on them. Newt gets “H.G.” tattooed on his left ring finger, just above his wedding ring. Hermann gets “N.G.” tattooed over his heart. And of course, Newt is sure to take extra good care of Hermann. “See, I’m used to tattoos, but you’re not, baby. Oh, you poor thing! Do you need kisses? Some lotion over your tender area? Don’t worry, you’re getting both. Ooh, and tea! Yeah, you’ll need tea.”

Headcanon: They actually got married right after the Breach closed and Newt got his wedding ring tattoed because, duh, but also because he works with samples and stuff and wouldn’t want to lose it in some guts he’s dissecting. 

AND NOW FOR THE SAD TIME, LOOK AWAY IF YOU MUST

The reason the Precursors have him wearing that big ugly ring on his left ring finger in Uprising is to cover it up. Not just to hide that Newt’s been married from others, but also to hide the reminder from himself, so he can’t as easily remember why he was fighting them so hard.

I commissioned this from lunarinferno. Isn’t it awesome? I figure this happens after they’ve saved the world because they can actually relax and have a good night’s sleep instead of working horribly long hours and stressing out.

I adore their interlocking fingers. 

Hermann looks so content and happy using Newt as his pillow (and he looks 10 years younger when he’s smiling and happy, not like a grumpy old professor). 

Hermann’s all comfy in his pajamas while Newt’s just kinda sprawled in his Godzilla boxers.

Newt’s tattoos look awesome. The bit of body hair is a nice touch. And I love his pudgy tum. 😀

I had to look at twice before I spotted Newt’s glasses setting over on the nightstand.
