I saw @geniusbee‘s post about herMAYnn, so naturally I’m gonna participate

I finished Thud! a few weeks ago and I can’t stop thinking about this
“His whole world went soft” are words that have lodged themselves in my soul
hermann: does anything
me: fucking superb you funky little space champion…
Ok! Then you do Newt!
Headcanon A: realistic – Regardless of how he got his limp, to require a cane at so young an age forced Hermann to consider his own mortality. It is not his instinct, but he has developed the habit of taking care of himself, and he approaches this with the same methodical scrupulousness that he approaches everything else. He goes to bed and wakes up at the same time every day (in fact he has an alarm set to tell him when to start getting ready for bed, otherwise he’d work into the night). He exercises and stretches regularly. He eats a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables. He has alarms to remind him to take his vitamins and medications at the right time every day. He drinks plenty of water.
His one indulgence is that he consumes maybe a little too much caffeine in the form of black tea.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious – Herman is literally 100% doing Alan Turing cosplay. Maybe not consciously, but he is very aware of carrying on the torch of the exceptionally brilliant gay scientists. I think he’s also secretly a little sanctimonious and arrogant about too. Like, seeing himself as England’s redemption for it’s horrendous treatment of Turing.
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends – Shockingly I can’t think of any right now? Maybe I just have too many? Come back to me.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own. – I try really hard not to do this, actually. Part of the fun of writing fic to me is forcing the canon to twist into the shape I want it to be without breaking it. Otherwise I might as well write original work, right?
The one thing I can think of is that I wrote a fic where Vanessa is an AI model designed by him rather than a human wife (who is a model), and now that’s the only way I can think of her. Though, tbh that probably has more to do with my great love for robots than anything else. Also I don’t know if that counts as flying in the face of canon because Vanessa is widely considered non-canon anyway. so. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
