Old married couple Newmann – just straight up sharing everything. They’re still invited to conferences together and people who are attentive to those kinds of things will notice that Newt is wearing the same tie Hermann was yesterday. Picking up each other’s habits in the classroom – Hermann saying “fortune favours the brave” before an exam; Newt wheeling a goddamn blackboard into a lecture hall (from the stuffy confines of the basement) to demonstrate a particularly theory-heavy bit of research
2/2 – some weekends they drink A Lot of tea and they just rinse out the same mugs (“World’s Best Husband (and Physicist)” (the latter scrawled on in permanent marker – a six month wedding anniversary present from Newt to Hermann – now chipped and fading) and one that was just a goodie from a science thing but that Newt has also defaced/decorated with all kinds of Nerdy Scribbles) – and they never keep track of who’s using which one.
addendum to Hermann saying fortune favours the brave – one time, he’s not paying attention, and he says “dude” and realises just soon enough to like….turn it into a mumble, but the student sitting closest to him definitely thinks they heard Dr Gottlieb say “dude” like what??? ? ?

oh my god. hermann saying “fortune favors the brave” before an exam is so cute because then it gives the students a chance to incorporate the saying into their own vocabularies and then pass it on until newt hears it and he’s like “where did you hear that??” the answer is usually “a friend of a friend of a friend who’s in this physics class started using it and it’s so cryptic that everyone in my biology class is now using it” and newt just Knows it came from hermann.
