Your post about how to write twist endings and how to make your story endings better was incredible to read! It really opened up my eyes on how I can make my works more compelling and interesting to my audience. Do you have any additional advice for an aspiring author?

aosdjoadj oh gosh, Anon, I confess I was worried that the post wasn’t good enough and didn’t have enough examples and didn’t encapsulate every kind of twist one could have, since I blanked after three on all the points I wanted to make, so this really means a lot to me, thank you!

A lot of my writing advice is under my “maggie rambles” tag, or my “writing” tag and occasionally under “writing advice”.

Here’s a list of a few of the posts I’ve written on the subject:

On keeping your reader focused on the right mystery

On how to introduce an original fantasy/sci-fi element (novum) in your story

On balancing writing and real life

On getting back into stories you’ve lost interest in writing

On “Clearing the Throat”

On Writing Main Characters

How Point of View (POV) brings description to life

Why writing first person is harder than it looks

How “My Hero Academia” ep 1 & 2 teaches writers how to begin a genre story

How to produce a high word count as a fiction writer

Stuff I Learned at My Writing Workshop (That I’m Kicking Myself in the Head for Not Realizing Sooner) (I have no idea why this post has so many notes)

On the overuse of “looking” and “eye” language in beginner fiction

When writing “slow burn” romance becomes the author subconsciously avoiding writing emotions (and how to avoid that)

On writing a good “Chosen One” story

On the pitfalls of “Gritty Realism”

Whew, that’s a lot of my most recent ones! I’m sure I have more if I go back a few years, but this’ll get you started.

It should be noted though that all these essays could be re-tagged as “Maggie yells at Maggie about things she needs to remember” – I don’t pretend to be an expert on any of the topics I’m writing about. They’re generally things I’m trying to improve at, or they’re mistakes I’ve seen mainstream stories make, or they’re solicited advice that I did my best to answer and to acknowledge I don’t have all the answers. But I hope you will enjoy them!

Hi Newt’s code for the order to open all the breeches and stuff? Lima Victor. In nautical flag language Lima means “You should stop your vessel immediately” and Victor means “I require assistance”. Now either this is just random bullshit or the code for the name of the order the precursors programmed is a cry for help from the real Newt

I’d like to add that when this word for word theory was tweeted at DeKnight, he absolutely confirmed that It was done on purpose.

From what I’ve seen, it’s episode 23 that really gets people into shipping Midoriya and Shotu because we get to see the latter’s backstory and how much Midoriya pushes him to accept both sides of himself

Yeah I’ve seen that episode already and I could definitely see some possibility there for them to become really important to one another! It just felt like not enough for me, I guess? Like I was sort of hoping there’d be another episode where they’re close that builds on that, can I expect one of those later? I’m 100% game to have a new ship tear my heart out, and I see that the BNHA fandom is huge and looks like it has some fabulous writers, but so far no particular ship has grabbed me *shrug*

On the subject of My Hero Academia shipping, I’ve seen that the really popular one is Midoriya/Shouto, and I hope I haven’t missed the episode yet where that ship got popular because it looks like it COULD be cute and mutually supportive and wholesome, but I just haven’t seen enough yet to feel a connection between them yet.

Cut for spoilers

The Bakugo / Midoriya ship kiiinda makes more sense to me, but I’m on the fence. On the one hand, jfc there’s a lot of what looks like confused teenage self-directed homophobia going on with Bakugo. His resentment and obsession towards Midoriya feels SO MUCH like the girl who wrote the note that said “Get out of my school” at her (female) crush because she couldn’t handle having so many weird feelings towards another girl so it MUST be hatred, right? Midoriya definitely looks/looked up to Bakugo and is equally obsessed with him and fixated on him in a way that feels like a crush. I can definitely see a maturation of their relationship which is them no longer being dumbasses and realizing it’s less that they want to hit each other in the face with their fists and more like they want to attack the other’s lips with their lips, kind of situation.

The only problem is that Bakugo’s level of irrational rage towards Midoriya is seriously obnoxious at times. I’m at the point where I really hope they’ll reveal soon wtf baby Midoriya did to piss this guy off so much! Clearly there’s some incident or belief in Bakugo’s head that makes Midoriya WAY WORSE than it actually was (probably) and that he just can’t let go. But there comes a point where the rivalry just becomes abuse and I can’t really ship it even as a “stupid boys who don’t realize their anger is actually a crush” because so much nastiness happened first, like really ugly physical stuff and rage. They’re forced to team up in the episode I’m watching now (2.37) and I basically paused this because I SENSE I’ll be getting answers on the above soon but man, I want to smack the shit out of Bakugo right now, not ship him with Midoriya. I’ll ship Midoriya with fuckin’ ANYONE else before that, jfc, he has chemistry with EVERYONE after all because he’s a sweetie.
