full and complete disclosure: i am forever endlessly amused at the thought of newt and hermann being sent to ridiculously extravagant galas and having to schmooze with the Rich and Powerful to get funding because no, actually, they’d be TERRIBLE at it. newt is obnoxious about everything and hermann may think he has better people skills but he doesn’t whatsoever and they end up offending everyone because they say exactly what’s on their minds and then spend the rest of the night lurking in a corner and stealing free food (they won’t admit it but they actually kind of have fun together)
I’m still waiting for the amnesia Newmann fic which starts out like a normal joke-y “Newt bumped his head” story and then we slowly learn that this is post-Uprising and Newt doesn’t remember anything since the first time he Drifted with a Kaiju brain, and everyone has to decide how to break it to him

OK BUT!!! I’m not gonna write it I mean, I already had a bit of an amnesia plot in TOWOID and Kidnapping is next.
BUT I do protest that it would necessarily be a sad fic. I have a sneaking suspicion that Hermann would almost prefer this outcome to Newt remembering the past ten years? It’s a reset, Newt goes right back to the person he was before he Drifted with them (the argument I’d make is that they do something to get rid of the Precursors and…well… it does. Just a little too thoroughly, because Newt’s brain was that wrapped up with them).
Frankly, things wouldn’t be so bad for Newt too (depending on how much people blame him, which is hopefully not much) – He wakes up to hear the Breach was closed and Hermann actually likes him as a person now? Score! What’s the alternative? Remembering ten years of corporate, solitary hell? Sure he’s older now and that would take adjustment, but most of what he lost was shitty anyway. Hermann gets back the lab partner he once had, one who isn’t shadowed by intense trauma? Honestly it could almost be a romcom about Uprising Hermann now trying to flirt with what is effectively a Pacific Rim 1 Newt many years later and win his affections.
(Frankly, in a fic like this if I wanted to dole out the angst I’d give y’all happy!Newt who has only had good news and some really weird news about stuff he can’t remember, and then start giving him back his memories.)
Ngl tho this is one of the better sex scenes I’ve written :3
