Newton was the one to suggest they upgrade from letters to emails all those months ago. Not because he didn’t love the medium, he assured Hermann–it makes me feel like I’m some sort of romantic hero, he explained once, and Hermann wasn’t quite sure how to take that–but because he was tired of waiting over a week for a response. Their correspondence was not time-sensitive back then, not by any means, and it’s not now, but Hermann understood his impatience. The days between sending a letter off and receiving one in return were exciting, and they gave Hermann something to look forward to when–exhausted, tense–he’d return home from working at the university or alongside his father. But they were also long, and often Newton would be delayed in responding, or Hermann would be delayed in responding, or the postal service would be delayed in delivering, and–once–they went nearly an entire month without hearing from each other when Newton moved house.
That was the tipping point, actually. In Newton’s letter after that month, he finally signed off with both his (personal 😉, he made a point to clarify) email and phone number. Text anytime, he said.
Hermann did not text, but he emailed, and he continued to not text until Newton emailed his phone number once more with dude seriously just text me it’s so much easier.
everybody on crew has their own headcanon for the characters ages and we also don’t have any control over what their ages may or may not be decided as “canon” later by the marketing team. I did have age ranges in mind when designing characters, but I don’t want to risk an age being decided later that doesn’t match my intent and ya’ll being hurt or causing problems with each other about it. so, please use your own personal best judgement with how old you think they are, behave appropriately within your own headcanon, but alsorespect other people if they interpret the characters differently than you do. I know exactly why this question is being asked and I am begging you to collectively unclench and not harass each other about stuff that is very easily dependent on personal interpretation and projection which can vary wildly from person to person. if its not stated or shown in canon, its available for interpretation. it is valid to be made uncomfortable by ships or fellow fans for literally any reason, but it is not valid to bully or disparage people based on your own headcanons. do not take this as license to be gross out there, and block on sight if somebody is being gross. ship wars are cancelled everybody has to share the characters.
its graduation season so everyones going to graduations. and i always look at how SILLY ALL THE PROFESSORS LOOK WOW. so i finally had to look up the differences between the regalia styles. its too complex. who has enough time to sit there and denote every single difference between the colors belonging to a PHD and D PH?
when i was sitting in my friends ceremony, thinking about this, i was thinking hahahaha omg newton would not be able to moooove but. only one hood can be worn at a time. both MIT and TUBerlin are jazzed about red, and they both fall underneath science gold so hey they can have matching piping and colors wow perfect good. (BUT one cannot mismatch colors and stuff so newt would have 6 different gowns or more depending. tbh i dont think hed even walk after the first doctorate like he has to study to take the test to jump the NEXT course on the way to his NEXT doctorate who has the time smh)
